I’ve lived in New York on and off my entire life, and like any New Yorker, I have a large place in my heart for the Hamptons. When Kat and Jon approached me for their September wedding in Montauk, I couldn’t wait for to see the pristine beaches once again. It might surprise you, but although I am based in Upstate New York (near other incredible wedding weekend destinations – like Hudson Valley and the Finger Lakes), I frequently travel down to New York City for various photo shoots and engagement sessions! Now enough about me, I can’t wait to share a few of the details I got to photograph at this gorgeous Montauk wedding! Kat and Jon had an eye for the details and I don’t think I will ever forget how much I loved her wedding dress. It took my breath away. After I took the wedding detail photos, we met on the Montauk beach for their first look before the wedding ceremony. I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful setting.

Montauk Beach Wedding Ceremony

One of the best parts about choosing a breathtaking location like Montauk for your wedding ceremony, is that it really doesn’t take any effort to make your backdrop incredible. Kat and Jon wanted a laid back, beach destination wedding feel to their wedding. They didn’t go over the top with florals or elaborate wedding decor. Instead, they let the beauty of the destination speak for itself (and it did!).

After the wedding ceremony, they retreated to the colorful Surf Lodge for a laid-back, yet incredibly elegant, wedding reception. As an editorial wedding photographer, I naturally have a love for details and these two didn’t miss a beat. I love the way they tied in the beauty of Montauk throughout their entire wedding day. It did not go unnoticed. Their outdoor wedding was stunning, from cocktail hour to the sunset. Is there a setting more romantic than a sunset beach wedding reception? Kat and Jon’s wedding was pure joy.
