Today’s New York City wedding has a special place in my heart because the bride was Desiree (from Verve Event Co‘s) sister. We have worked together closely throughout the last few years at several Upstate New York weddings. I was absolutely honored that she trusted me to capture her sister’s wedding day. More than that, Ingrid and Martin were such a sweet couple. I loved how they infused so much of themselves in their wedding day.
We started the day at Ludlow hotel NYC which the bride specifically chose for the stunning backgrounds and abundance of natural light. As a wedding photographer, I am used to photographing in all different lighting situations but capturing getting ready photos (and photographing all of the thoughtful details) is always easier with great lighting. When they were ready, they had their first look in one of the hotel rooms as well. You can tell from the photos, it was such an intimate and emotional moment. The photos during a first look are often my favorite from the day. I adore capturing those raw emotions, before you juggle the pressure of everyone watching you walk down the aisle.
New York City Catholic Church Ceremony
Ingrid and Martin are both religious so naturally the ceremony was an important part of their wedding day. Their ceremony took place at Old Saint Patricks Church on the lower East side. Every moment was absolutely beautiful. Truthfully, I always love photographing weddings in older Catholic churches, with the dramatic ceilings and all of the intricate details. After the wedding ceremony, we took a some family portraits and more photos of just the two of them. The sun was shining throughout the day (and gorgeous) so even though it was colder than we all would have preferred, it was worth every second.
Gelso & Grand New York City Wedding Reception
I mentioned it briefly earlier, but I love how Ingrid and Martin infused themselves into different parts of their wedding day. You want your wedding to reflect you both as a couple, whether that’s a low-key backyard wedding in Upstate New York or a formal church wedding in New York City. The color blue was prevalent throughout Ingrid and Martin’s wedding day because they both love the color, and it is also an important color in their faith. They infused different textures and textiles that are reflective of their heritage (Ingrid is from the Philippines and Martin is from Peru). Even the florals, which were done beautifully by Ephemera, had cultural significance. From start to finish, their wedding was so beautifully put together and I was grateful for every minute I was apart of it.
