If you are considering planning your wedding in Upstate New York, you could hardly dream up a better location than in the Finger Lakes! Working with Samantha and Matt was truly such a pleasure from the moment they reached out. Last fall, I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement session at Sonnenberg. They are literally the sweetest couple ever. Their Sonnenberg Gardens wedding was no exception – truly stunning from every angle. As a wedding photographer who absolutely loves details, nothing was overlooked.

Romantic Wedding Details

As an editorial wedding photographer, getting ready photos are always some of my favorites from the day. What other chance do you get to appreciate all of the little details in one place? From unique ring boxes to gorgeous bridal earrings, I met Samantha at a local airbnb to capture all of the pre-wedding details and moments. We had a first look reveal with her dad and her wedding party. On the other side, Matt got ready at The Lake House in Canandaigua (another gorgeous Finger Lakes wedding venue). Samantha surprised him and his groomsmen with a fried chicken order – his favorite. It was such an unexpected touch (and SO appreciated).

First Look Wedding Photos

I always love first looks, and Samantha and Matt chose the most incredible first look location – the Shakespeare Garden at Sonnenberg Gardens. When you are planning a first look, don’t feel like you “have to” tap your shoulder on the shoulder. Matt watched Samantha approaching across the gardens and the energy was equally electric.

Unplugged Wedding Ceremony at Sonnenberg Gardens

As a wedding photographer, I always appreciate an unplugged wedding. Samantha and Matt both appreciate the value in being completely present in every moment so not only did they chose to have an unplugged wedding ceremony, they actually chose to have an unplugged honeymoon too! Trust me when I say, as a wedding photographer, it was so hard not to share sneak peeks until they returned! Their outdoor wedding ceremony was simply beautiful.

Outdoor Tented Wedding Venue

Finally, their wedding day finished off with an incredible outdoor tented wedding reception. Filled with charming wedding details like a Poloroid camera guest book and a picture frame seating chart, everything looked stunning and unique to them. We snuck away during the reception for just a few sunset wedding photos around Sonnenberg Gardens and the lighting was absolutely perfect. I would definitely do this wedding again! Too soon for a vow renewal?
